In the morning we leave the hotel to go to the old town of Trani, a city with a wealth of Medieval and Norman features, such as the amazing Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino (true symbol of the city). This is perhaps the most beautiful and famous Apulian Romanesque church. Building was started in the 11th century and continued for over a hundred years; in the 13th century the tall, sturdy belltower was added alongside.
The tour continues to the nearby Swabian Castle built in the 13th century on the site of a Norman fortification. Despite all of the alterations, this solid building is one of the few castles in Apulia to have preserved the beauty of its original layout.
